California Midwives

I am a homebirth midwife serving the Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Porterville,and some coastal and desert areas. I will travel up to 150 miles of home or a 3 hour drive. I provide complete prenatal, birth and postpartum care. I usually request the Couples to come to my home for their prenatal care, but I will go to their homes if necessary. I will deliver in the privacy of the couples home or if they desire they can come to my home and deliver in a private birth room.

I am an apprenticed trained independent Traditional Christian Midwife. I trained with Angela Frans of Terrell, Texas for 4 years and also went to Stoneboro,PA and worked with Lucille Sykes in her Birth Center for a few weeks. I love to read books and watch videos about birth and learn all that I can. I feel with each birth I learn something new. Birth is a learning process. We never know enough. I always pray before each birth and ask the Lord to make all things possible.

I feel every couple has the right to give birth with whom and where ever they desire to birth. My desire is for every birth to be a gentle birth. We accomplish this by being there for the Mother and being her coach, friend and her midwife all in one.

I feel that midwifery is a calling for me. Therefore I do this as a ministry first. I have done breeches, waterbirths and twins. When I first started I always referrred to SPIRITUAL MIDWIFERY by Ina Gaskin and POLLY's BIRTH BOOK by Polly Brock as my midwifery guides.

I am married to Rev Michael Capps for 40 years and the Mother of 7 children, 4 which were homebirth and the last 3 (triplets) were born at a local hospital. They were born naturally and all head first with no medication or intervention within 29 minutes. The children range in ages 39-32 years. We have 18 grandchildren 9 of whom I have had the joy of being the midwife. We are a very close knit family and the girls say they sometimes have to make appointments with me to talk. All are very supportive of what I do. I have a very full and happy life. I always have time for anyone who needs me.

I tell my Mother's I am available 24 hours a day 7 days a week if they have an emergency. I have reference letters for those who desire them. I appreciate any and all referrals. If I am not able to do them then I will refer to another midwife.
